Vick and Vicki — the encounter
Chapter One

The Encounter

It all started with a rose — the one free rose a broke Hinge user gets each week. Vick was supposed to be writing a moot court brief. He wrote zero words of it. Instead, he found a pretty girl with dazzling height and a captivating smile on Discover whose name was suspiciously close to his own, and handed over his one rose.

Vicki made him sweat for it — nearly a month of silence (she was busy skiing in Niseko, no big deal). Her opening message, when it finally came? “I have a JD too.”

Once they migrated to WeChat, Vick couldn’t help himself: “Your name is Vicki and mine is Vick — did fate mean to bring us together?” 😉

Their first date, January 10, 2024, was a full tour: drinks and name jokes at the Redwood Room at The Clift Royal Sonesta San Francisco, Salt & Straw ice cream in Hayes Valley (turns out Vicki hates cold things), and jazz-fueled dancing at Top of the Mark at the Intercontinental. When Vick rolled back into Berkeley, grinning the whole drive, it was past 1 a.m.

Vick and Vicki — the pursuit
Chapter Two

The Pursuit

A slow, sure courtship — late-night phone calls, first road trips, and the quiet certainty that this was the person worth chasing.

A few words about how you fell for each other — the dates, the distance, the moment you knew — to come.

Vick and Vicki — the elopement
Chapter Three

The Elopement

Knowing a New York federal clerkship was calling — and with, let’s say, other things on his mind — Vick decided it was time. He proposed to Vicki, not on a whim, but (much to Vicki’s mild horror) over text, from out of town. Somehow, that didn’t stop her from saying yes on the spot — their parents only found out after the fact.

On November 30, 2024, in front of Vick’s beloved mentor, the Honorable Nancy Waples of the Vermont Supreme Court, Vick and Vicki tied the knot at the real-life Sound of Music setting: the Von Trapp Family Lodge in the snowy Green Mountain town of Stowe, VT.

Vick and Vicki — the engagement
Chapter Four

The Engagement

Studying at Cornell has been one of Vicki’s favorite chapters of her time in the U.S. — so when Vick asked to visit for the Fourth of July, Vicki said yes without a second thought.

Little did she know, with an accomplice squad — Vicki’s friend Coco and her partner Victor — and a diamond ring hiding in his pocket, Vick got down on one knee under the gothic arches of West Campus. 5 p.m., July 4, 2026, right on cue: Cornell’s McGraw Tower chimed out “In My Life,” by Vicki’s all-time favorite band, The Beatles.

Vick and Vicki — the two of us
Chapter Five

The Two of Us

These days, Vick and Vicki call Downtown Brooklyn home. By day, Vick keeps himself busy preserving creditors’ and debtors’ value as a business restructuring attorney at One Vanderbilt — while Vicki is off creating value (and taking over lawyers’ business) at a legal AI startup near Union Square.

In their free time, the two chase adventures, hunt down new restaurants, catch movies, hit the golf course, and go swimming. Here and now, with everything still ahead, we can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter with you.

A Fourth of July Weekend in New York

Independence Day weekend is one of the busiest of the year in New York City — hotels fill early and rates climb. We’d gently recommend booking your room as soon as your plans are set.

Plan Your Stay

Room Blocks

We understand that reserving hotel rooms for the Fourth of July long weekend in NYC is no small feat! That’s why we’ve secured three room blocks with negotiated rates at the hotels below.

If exploring New York City is part of your plans for the long weekend, we recommend staying with us in Downtown Brooklyn, where the 2, 3, 4, 5, B, Q, R, A, C, and G trains can take you to every corner of Manhattan — all without the noise and bustle of the island. On our wedding date, a shuttle will take you to and from the venue.

If you’d like to venture out to beautiful Long Island, we’ve got you covered at the Long Island Marriott. The recently renovated hotel is close to the venue and offers parking if you plan on driving.

Yes!

In early July, an evening in Old Westbury, Long Island is typically warm and humid, with temperatures cooling down from daytime highs in the mid-to-upper 80s into a comfortable, muggy 68°F to 72°F (20°C to 22°C). Humidity often lingers around 65%, and gentle sea breezes coming across the North Shore frequently help temper the summer heat after sunset.

Absolutely! We’d love for you to snap photos. We just ask that you don’t take photos during the ceremony.
